Bhopal, 7th February 2026: THINK Gas, one of India’s leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, in association with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), today rolled out the National PNG Drive 2.0 awareness campaign in Bhopal. The launch took place in the presence of Mr. Rameshwar Sharma, Hon’ble MLA, Huzur Constituency and Ex-Protem Speaker, Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly; Mr. Anjani Kumar Tiwari, Member (Commercial), PNGRB; along with Mr. Abhilesh Gupta, Managing Director and CEO, THINK Gas. The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) across authorized Geographical Areas where core pipeline infrastructure is already in place.
Under the National PNG Drive 2.0, THINK Gas targeted to add over 3000 household PNG connections between 1 January and 31 March, thereby strengthening access to cleaner and safer cooking fuel across Bhopal. Mr. Anjani Kumar Tiwari, Member (Commercial), PNGRB, formally operationalized a domestic PNG connection at Aakriti Greens Society, Salaya.
Currently, Bhopal has approximately 15% coverage of the natural gas ecosystem, spanning residential, industrial, and transport segments. Through PNG Drive 2.0, THINK Gas aims to further deepen this penetration by enhancing consumer awareness, enabling faster conversions, and ensuring safe and efficient last-mile connectivity.
To promote cleaner mobility, Mr. Anjani Kumar Tiwari also flagged off a CNG auto rally at Link Route 3, highlighting the city’s expanding CNG infrastructure and its role in reducing vehicular emissions. As part of the drive, THINK Gas has committed to commissioning three new CNG stations in the region to cater to the growing demand from the transport sector.
Commenting on the occasion, Shri. Rameshwar Sharma, Hon’ble MLA, Huzur Constituency and Ex-Protem Speaker, Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, said “The rollout of PNG Drive 2.0 in Bhopal marks a significant step towards strengthening access to clean and affordable energy for our citizens. Expanding CNG infrastructure for vehicles will play a vital role in enhancing urban development by reducing pollution and supporting the economic viability of fuel for all vehicle owners. I extend my gratitude to the people of Bhopal for embracing PNG as a cleaner fuel choice for households, with a special mention to Aakriti Greens Society for proactively transitioning to PNG connections.”
Adding to this, Mr. Anjani Kumar Tiwari, Member (Commercial), PNGRB, said “PNG Drive 2.0 is a nationwide initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of PNG and CNG across Geographical Areas where core infrastructure is already in place. In Madhya Pradesh, as a part of MWP programme 59 lacs DPNG connections and 1207 nos. of CNG Stations to be added in the state. In Bhopal, THINK Gas, as the authorized CGD entity, is playing a key enabling role by facilitating faster consumer conversions and delivering visible on-ground outcomes during the campaign period. By prioritizing consumer awareness, improving conversion efficiency, and ensuring strict compliance with safety and operational standards, the drive supports India’s clean energy transition and contributes meaningfully to long-term emissions reduction objectives. We sincerely appreciate THINK Gas for passing on the benefits of PNGRB’s regulatory reforms directly to consumers, including an impressive reduction of ₹5 per SCM in domestic PNG prices and ₹2.5 per kg in CNG prices. We also encourage the use of biogas-blended compressed natural gas (CNG) to reduce dependence on imported natural gas. We are confident that THINK Gas will make this a reality across Bhopal and Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh through its robust infrastructure.”
Sharing his views, Mr. Abhilesh Gupta, Managing Director and CEO, THINK Gas, said, “We have commissioned and continue to maintain nearly 180 km of cross-country steel pipeline in-house, developed a LCNG station at Bagroda, and are witnessing a fast-evolving LNG dispensing ecosystem. Today, pipelines have been laid to reach nearly 80,000 households, with 42 CNG stations already operational and three more set to be commissioned shortly. This progress would not have been possible at this pace without the active support of the State Government and the local administration. We also acknowledge PNGRB’s role, particularly its pipeline tariff reforms and continued policy support for CGD. Enabled by these reforms, we were the first CGD entity to pass on the entire benefit to end consumers—reducing CNG prices by ₹2.5 per kg and domestic PNG prices by ₹5 per SCM—thereby directly benefiting common citizens.”
PNG Drive2.0 is a nationwide initiative focusing on increasing consumer awareness, improving conversion rates among households, commercial establishments and the transport sector, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards, thereby supporting India’s broader clean energy and emissions reduction goals.
