SAFETY FAQS

When outside: If you are outside and smell gas, then it is probably from the underground pipeline that supplies gas to the buildings. Call 1800-2022-999 immediately and get away from the area.

When inside: If you smell gas inside, it is probably coming from the appliance. When it is improperly fitted, the gas tends to leak from the pipe that connects the appliance. Switch off all the knobs and if you can still smell gas, contact your supplier for a refit. To avoid this, ensure that the fitting is done by an THINK Gas Certified Technician and keep check with a regular service.

In Case: You smell rotten eggs or a sulphur-like smell, there may be a gas leak. Gas is naturally odourless. You can smell it due to the addition of Odorant which is a harmless artificial smell to help you detect leakage. It is easily recognisable by most people. If you smell it around the house then you need to turn off the valve and take action immediately.

To Do: Call emergency helpline of THINK Gas or call the local fire department. Ensure no machinery is being operated around the area, divert traffic and any vehicle from the area, and warn others of the gas leak. Remove flammable objects from around the area and ensure there is no use of fire. Clear the area and stay away till help arrives.

Do not do: Absolutely do not ignore the smell of gas. If you smell it, report the leakage. Do not operate machinery around the area and do not let vehicles move or park in and around it. Do not use mobile phones around the area, call the emergency contact number when you are at a distance. Do not ignore unauthorised digging around the pipeline and do not let the use of pipeline equipment during the leak. Do not close any valve without the right directions.

To do: Immediately close the gas pipe isolation valve, Open all available doors and windows to facilitate ventilation, exit the premises and contact the THINK Gas emergency control room for assistance.

Do not do: Avoid using electrical appliances or switches in the vicinity of the leakage, prevent any open flames, sparks, or flammable materials near the leakage point and refrain from using mobile phones in the area.
