Kick starting the recognition drive today in partnership with PNGRB, THINK Gas has certified households across 7 large residential communities serving 4000+ families
Kancheepuram, May 8, 2026: THINK Gas, one of India’s leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, today conducted the declaration of ‘LPG Free Zones’ initiative at Kancheepuram geographical area, in partnership with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). This initiative is aimed at accelerating the adoption of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) with THINK Gas and PNGRB officials today handing over the LPG Free Zone certification to the association of Urbanrise - Revolution One residential community, recognizing the society’s large-scale transition to PNG.
In continuation of this initiative, THINK Gas has certified a total of seven large residential communities across the Kancheepuram Geographical Area (GA) as “LPG Free Zones”, recognizing societies that have significantly transitioned households from LPG cylinders to PNG connections. The certified communities together account for over 4000+ households, which have already transitioned to PNG.
The first set of communities recognized under the initiative include SBIOA, Victoria Tower, Embassy Residency, Bollineni Phase 1, Bollineni Iris (Phase 3), Bollineni Phase 2 and Urban Rise R1 located across the OMR region.
The initiative encourages residents across the area to choose PNG in residential communities while also creating awareness on the convenience, uninterrupted supply and long-term value offered by piped gas infrastructure.
Speaking on the launch of the initiative, Mr. Thirukkumaran N T, Regional Head - Kancheepuram, THINK Gas, said, “Through the LPG Free Zone declaration, we aim to work closely with residential communities to accelerate PNG adoption and build greater awareness around piped gas infrastructure. We are encouraged by the response seen across these communities and remain committed to supporting more households in making a seamless transition to PNG.”
Adding to this, Mr. Ashutosh Bhatt, Deputy Director-D-PNG, PNGRB, said, “Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is convenient, eco-friendly and safe for use and is a much better fuel source compared to LPG. I appeal to all the residents of Kanchipuram Geographic Area to adopt PNG for a cleaner and greener future for the city and the nation.”
THINK Gas stated that the initiative will continue to expand across the Kancheepuram GA over the coming months, with plans to certify additional residential communities that achieve large scale PNG adoption.
The recognition drive also aligns with the broader push towards strengthening urban gas infrastructure and increasing access to PNG among households.
